  Introduction

A landmark of the Manhattan skyline, the 35-story hotel overlooking Central Park is among the city's finest, providing a home away from home to the world's elite.

To guest at The Carlyle is to experience the very best of life in one of the world’s most electrifying cities. With rooms reminiscent of an elegant private residence, a discreet and seasoned staff, and world-class dining and entertainment, the hotel is synonymous with privilege – a secret shared by the hotel’s long history of prominent guests from world affairs, business, society, the arts and entertainment.

Named after British essayist Thomas Carlyle, the magnificent hotel designed by Bien and Prince, was completed in 1931. From its brilliant location on Madison Avenue, the quiet and genteel hotel has dominated the Upper East Side skyline for 70 years offering enviable views of Central Park to its guests. Initially decorated in the Empire manner by Dorothy Draper and updated by the formidable Mark Hampton, the hotel maintains a unique, understated elegance and a strong Art Deco influence that has defined New York chic since 1930.

A showcase of great art, a purveyor of privacy, and a sanctuary of refined taste, The Carlyle is also home to the famed Café Carlyle, the legendary New York cabaret venue boasting performances by Bobby Short, Eartha Kitt, Woody Allen and other internationally renowned artists.
